Melbourne’s $20m mansion

The title of Melbourne‘s most expensive house has passed to a Toorak mansion, which is believed to have changed hands for a record $20 million.

The mansion, named Miegunyah, was sold by ex-Pacific Dunlop chief Phillip Brass to an undisclosed buyer.

Mr Brass is reported to have bought the property, located at 641 Orrong Road in the inner eastern suburb of Melbourne, for $2 million in 1991 from businessman Robert Holmes a Court.

Having inspired cocktails, clothes and a taste for skyscraper heels, the Sex And The City girls are now showing us ways to dress our homes. It is not just the ladies’ latest fashions that are on parade in the new film Sex And The City 2, it’s their interiors style as well.

“I’ve been cheating on fashion with furniture,” quips clothes-aholic Carrie Bradshaw (actress Sarah Jessica Parker‘s character) in one of the opening scenes of the movie.

Certainly, the New York apartment she and her new husband Big (Chris Noth) share on uber-trendy Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, plays a key role in the action, with the secrets of its style and decor being revealed in a new book, Sex And The City 2: The Stories, The Fashion, The Adventure.

Fashion does more than inspire revolutions on the catwalk – it plays a huge role in influencing the way we decorate our homes. Nobody believes this to be truer than Melbourne-based stylist Bernadette Ferrari – who takes note of what designers unveil from one season to the next, drawing from their sassy, playful and inspirational collections each and every time.

A long-time favourite of French magazine editors, Isabel Marant delivered a stunning collection for spring/summer 2010. It was an edgy mix of sterling silvers, rustic browns, splashes of orange and faded denim. She threw in fur sleeveless jackets for a bohemian touch, while the rest of the range was all about fine details including feather earrings, striped shorts, suede fringe boots and all things 1970s.

Ferrari has used Marant’s collection to create a lounge room inspired by the French rising star, and we love the shabby-chic end result.
